What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A comprehensive plan is a long range guide for decision-making about the natural and built environment in South Elgin. The plan includes analysis, recommendation, and proposals for the Village’s economy, housing, transportation, community facilities, and land use.

Why do we Plan?
The purpose of planning is to ensure that the future South Elgin meets the needs of residents and businesses, while maintaining a healthy and sustainable community. South Elgin still has 29% more to grow; as this land develops it is imperative that the Village has identified its vision and goals for these areas and the community as a whole. By creating a plan, the Village can work with developers to ensure that development complements existing land uses, as well as, prioritize improvements to existing neighborhoods. Planning helps ensure that the Village maintains its excellent quality of life.
